Reportage Photographer

Born 1961 in Switzerland, Christian Wyss took up photography in 1978.  Video editor for Swiss television, freelance journalist and photographer dedicated to documenting the lives of underprivileged people worldwide. Whether drug addicts, rebels or miners, these people were destined to form the central focus of his work. Politics and sport are also frequent subjects, together with social problems.

"Whether drug addicts, rebels or miners, these people were destined to form the central focus of his work."

In 1982, he went on the first of many extended trips to faraway continents, primarily Asia and Australia. By 1984 he had visited Asia 45 times – and always with a stopover in Burma – along with trips to other destinations.

Asia provided the subject matter for his first major political photoreportages and documentaries. He travelled into border regions, promoted human rights and portrayed individuals and sitations in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Nepal, India, Russia, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Kongo and other. He was particularly interested in ethnic minorities.

His work has also appeared in publications such as the NZZ and the Tagesanzeiger in Zurich,  Facts, Edito, Du, the Sunday paper, Sonntags Blick, Agentur Dukas, and publications for Médecins Sans Frontiéres.
